Perfectly Imperfect, 2021

Perfectly Imperfect was part of the exhibition FORMation, 2021 by eight Honours graduates from the ANU School of Art & Design and held at the Belconnen Arts Centre between 26 March and 9 May 2021.  We each worked within our own discipline and creative intentions to explore unique experiences, perspectives and relationships with the body.

Using a full length mirror placed between graphic images of decaying flora, this body of work asked the viewer to question why we are willing to celebrate nature's flaws and not our own. Why does the ageing body inspire anxiety rather than appreciation? Why do we find beauty in the rhythms of nature, but only praise the perfection of younger bodies?
